How to read this holiday list

Andhra Pradesh holidays 2026 are notified in General Administration Department G.O. Rt. No. 2276 dated 4 December 2025. Annexure I names 24 general-holiday occasions for state-government offices, while Annexure I(A) identifies four of those occasions that fall on Sundays. The order also says state offices close on Sundays and second Saturdays. Employees of those offices may request up to five optional holidays from Annexure II, subject to written advance permission and work exigencies. The order expressly excludes automatic application of the general list to certain industrial establishments, state-controlled undertakings, public-works workmen and educational institutions. Read those limits before treating the schedule as an all-employer calendar.

Annexure I: general-holiday occasions

These 24 entries reproduce the dated government-order annexure. The Sunday occasions are retained for transparency and are identified separately below; they should not be counted as additional weekday closures.

Annexure I(A): occasions falling on Sunday

The government order specifically isolates these four Annexure I occasions because they fall on a regular Sunday closure; no replacement date is inferred here.

Optional leave is a separate category

Annexure II contains optional occasions rather than general closures. The order permits a state-government employee to seek no more than five optional holidays in 2026, with a written application in advance and approval by the competent superior unless work exigencies require attendance. Express exclusions and workplace coverage

Paragraph 4 of the order states that general holidays do not ipso facto apply to state-controlled industrial establishments and public-sector undertakings, public-works workmen or educational institutions. Their administrative departments are to issue separate orders. Nor does a government-office order, by itself, determine every private employer's paid holiday obligations. Shops, factories, contractors and banks may have distinct governing provisions. State offices close on all Sundays and second Saturdays under paragraph 2, but that office rule should not be copied into another establishment without checking its own source.

Festival-date updates and source check

The order allows changes to dates for Ramzan, Bakrid, Moharrum and Eid Milad-un-Nabi based on moon sighting, as well as certain Hindu festivals, through electronic or print announcements. Departments and district collectors are directed to act on such announcements without waiting for another formal order. The annexure is therefore the starting point, not a substitute for checking later official communications.
