How to read this holiday list

Tamil Nadu holidays 2026 appear in Gazette Extraordinary No. 721, dated 11 November 2025, under G.O. Ms. No. 708. The order declares dates under the Negotiable Instruments Act for Tamil Nadu state-government offices and commercial and co-operative banks. The annexure contains 24 numbered entries, but one entry—1 April for annual closing of accounts—expressly applies only to commercial and co-operative banks. The other 23 entries are listed below without converting a Sunday holiday into a substitute weekday. The Gazette is the controlling source for this annual schedule; later election or local orders have their own limited scope and should be read separately.

Annual state-office and bank holiday entries

These are the 23 non-bank-only entries in the official annexure. Sundays shown in the Gazette remain on their stated dates; this transcription does not create replacement holidays.

Commercial and co-operative banks only

The asterisked Gazette entry expressly limits this additional day to commercial and co-operative banks in Tamil Nadu; it is not listed here as a general state-office closure.

Which workplaces can use this list

This official order specifies public holidays for state-government offices and the banks named in it. A private employer should not assume that every date in the Gazette automatically becomes a paid day off for every employee. The applicable shops-and-establishments, national-and-festival-holidays, factory, contract and employment terms may change the answer. Where a payroll or shift schedule depends on a specific date, identify the establishment category and the legal source of the entitlement before marking the employee calendar. The bank-only 1 April entry must remain bank-only when this schedule is reused.

Later election and local notices

The annual Gazette was followed by separate 2026 election-related orders. The statewide 23 April Assembly polling holiday and the 6 October bye-election order are distinct instruments, not silently added to this annual annexure. The October order is geographically limited to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies and separately addresses registered voters working in the stated districts and neighbouring districts. Check those source documents where relevant; do not label a constituency-only closure as a statewide holiday. Other district or poll orders may also exist and require their own source check.
