What does the updated minimum wage order in West Bengal entail?
Understanding minimum wage regulations requires an examination of several factors. Employers are obligated to comply with the minimum wage standards established by this legislation for the specified employment sectors.
The law outlines wage rates, as well as provisions for managing working hours and overtime compensation, ensuring equitable pay and suitable working conditions.
For calculation purposes, the minimum daily wage for daily laborers is determined by dividing the monthly wage by 26 days, which includes compensation for four weekly holidays. It is important to highlight that equal pay is required for both men and women performing the same type of work.
Zonal Classification for Minimum Wage in West Bengal
Zone A includes regions governed by Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Notified Areas, Development Authorities, and Thermal Power Plant zones, along with Township Areas.
Conversely, Zone B encompasses the remaining regions of West Bengal, providing a thorough understanding of geographical classifications for equitable wage assessments.
