Holiday requirements are not uniform across India: the applicable list can depend on the state, establishment type, industry and the notification issued for the relevant year. Before relying on a date for attendance, payroll or compensatory-off treatment, match the workplace with the controlling government notification.
Separate national or mandatory holidays from additional notified holidays and company-declared leave. Where an employee works on a notified holiday, review the applicable law, establishment rules and approved attendance record before deciding wages, substitute holiday or compensatory-off treatment.
