How to read this holiday list

Delhi government holidays 2026 for offices under the Government of NCT of Delhi were first declared by General Administration Department Gazette notification F. 53/812/GAD/CN/2025/4540-4576 dated 4 December 2025. The office schedule had 18 listed holidays and a separate list of 33 restricted holidays from which a covered employee may avail two. Two subsequent official documents reviewed for this page add the 14 April holiday for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary and move the government-office Bakrid holiday from 27 to 28 May. The tables below show those changes within the GNCTD office schedule. They must not be assumed to amend a separate Negotiable Instruments Act bank-holiday notification or establish paid leave for all private employers.

Restricted holidays in the base GNCTD office Gazette

The Gazette says a covered employee may avail any two of these 33 restricted holidays in addition to the listed office holidays. A restricted option is not a blanket closure of all offices or a private-sector entitlement.

Two later official changes to the office calendar

The General Administration Department's 13 April 2026 notification F. 53/841/GAD/CN/2026/2191-2233 declares 14 April a holiday on account of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary in all GNCTD government offices, autonomous bodies and public-sector undertakings. Its copy is distributed on the official Directorate of Education site and is attached here. Delhi Gazette No. 145 dated 26 May 2026, F. 53/849/GAD/CN/2026/3175-3218, partly modifies the 4 December office notification: Bakrid is observed on Thursday 28 May instead of Wednesday 27 May in the covered bodies. The original date remains visible in the base PDF, so use the amendment when reading it.

What this page does not establish

This is the GNCTD government-office schedule, not a consolidated bank calendar under the Negotiable Instruments Act. A separate Delhi Gazette notification F. 53/812/GAD/CN/2025/4503-4539 declares NI Act public holidays; this page does not infer that a later office-only amendment also amends that separate instrument. Likewise, a private shop, factory or other workplace should check the statute, contract and notified holiday requirements applicable to it. A restricted holiday is an eligible option for the employees described in the office notification, not a mandatory closure for everyone in Delhi.

This transcription is for finding and comparing entries, not a substitute for the signed orders. Before issuing a staff calendar, a payroll team should retain the source version consulted, confirm any later notifications after the verification date, and separate ordinary office closures from restricted leave and bank/public holidays. If an official later order differs from a row above, the later controlling order takes precedence.
