How to read this holiday list

Maharashtra holidays 2026 are set out in the General Administration Department Gazette dated 5 December 2025 and published on 8 December 2025. Part A declares public holidays under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act for the 2026 calendar year. The same Gazette then distinguishes a bank-only account-closing day and an additional Bhaubeej closure for named classes of state and local-government bodies. These categories have different legal scopes: do not combine them into a single promise of paid leave for every worker. The dates below transcribe the English-language schedule in the official PDF. Festival dates and operational calendars should still be checked against any later controlling order.

Part A - Public holidays declared for Maharashtra

The Gazette lists 24 holiday entries. Some occasions share one calendar date, so 24 entries should not be read as 24 distinct days away from work.

Separate bank-only and government-body holidays

These entries are not additional statewide Part A public holidays. The bank-closing day is expressly not admissible to government offices. The additional Bhaubeej day is for the state offices, state undertakings and listed local bodies in the second notification within the same Gazette.

Scope of the additional Bhaubeej day

The Marathi notification on the later pages of this Gazette describes the 11 November Bhaubeej day as an additional holiday for state-government offices, state undertakings, municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, zilla parishads, panchayat samitis and gram panchayats. It is presented separately from the 24 public-holiday entries notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Readers planning a bank or private-establishment calendar should not treat this additional closure as if the Gazette put it in Part A. The source PDF should be consulted for the exact original-language scope.

How employers should apply the schedule

A public holiday in this Gazette does not alone settle every employee's paid-holiday entitlement. Shops, factories, other establishments and contract workforces can have different statutory and contractual rules. Identify the establishment category, district, collective agreement and any employee-specific terms before preparing a leave notice. A holiday falling on a Saturday or Sunday is still shown on the date in the Gazette; whether another day is substituted requires a separate legal or employer-policy check. The document also lists two occasions on 1 May and two on 15 August, each pair occurring on a single date.
