How to read this holiday list

Odisha government holidays 2026 for state offices and Revenue and Magisterial Courts (Executive) are set out in Revenue and Disaster Management Department notification 42428 dated 11 November 2025. Annexure I contains 29 named occasions. A later government notification, number 21787 dated 25 May 2026, moved the Eid-ul-Zuha holiday from 27 to 28 May. The table below therefore marks 28 May as the amended operative date, while retaining the base order as the primary schedule. Annexure II lists nine optional occasions, of which a state-government employee may take one with written permission; Annexure III separately identifies six occasions already falling on a Sunday or second or fourth Saturday. These categories should not be counted as identical general closures.

Annexure I: state-office and executive-court dates

Twenty-nine named dates are transcribed from the base order, except Eid-ul-Zuha, which is shown on 28 May following the later official notification. Saturday entries are retained on their actual dates.

Annexure III: occasions already on normal closed days

The government explains that these six occasions coincide with Sundays or a second/fourth Saturday and are not specifically added as separate holidays by the annual order.

Bakrid amendment dated 25 May 2026

The base Annexure I originally printed 27 May for Id-ul-Zuha. The Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Department's later official notification says the holiday is to be observed on 28 May instead of 27 May. Both source PDFs are attached so a reader can see the annual list and the later correction. The original date should not be copied into a live 2026 office calendar without this amendment. The change is described by the department on its official holiday-notification page and is limited to what the later order actually provides.

Optional days are not general closures

The same notification's Annexure II offers nine optional occasions to state-government employees. A covered employee may avail one of those days, irrespective of religious affiliation, after written permission from the authority competent to sanction casual leave. That is different from the 29 named Annexure I dates. Annexure III identifies occasions that fall on ordinary Sunday or second- or fourth-Saturday closures and were not specifically declared again. This page keeps those dates separate to prevent a double count of holiday entitlements or an invented replacement day.

Check workplace and later orders

The annual notification expressly concerns state offices and Revenue and Magisterial Courts (Executive). It should not be represented as the Negotiable Instruments Act bank calendar, which Odisha published under a different reference, or as a universal private-employer paid-leave rule. Establishments should check their own legal holiday entitlement, district and employment terms. Before issuing an operational calendar, review both attached government PDFs and look for any later statewide or local election, festival or sector-specific direction.
