How to read this holiday list

Punjab government holidays 2026 are notified by the Department of Personnel under reference 06/01/2025-2PP3/781, dated 26 November 2025. The English schedule directs that public offices under the Punjab Government observe all Saturdays, all Sundays and 31 named holiday entries. Some named occasions fall on an ordinary Saturday or Sunday, and both Vaisakhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar's birthday share 14 April, so the 31-entry count must not be interpreted as 31 additional distinct working days off. The notification separately permits two restricted holidays and four second-half days for specified processions, subject to its terms. It says the birthday holiday for Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji will be announced later; this page does not invent a date for that future announcement.

Named public-office holidays in the 2026 notification

These 31 entries follow the official English schedule. Weekend and same-date occasions remain on their printed dates; no substitute closure is assumed.

Restricted and half-day choices

The notification lists restricted holidays separately from the 31 named public-office dates and allows each covered employee to choose two of them for 2026. It also permits four second-half-day holidays to join Nagar Kirtan or Sobha Yatra on specified occasions, with a record to be maintained by the controlling authority. Those are employee choices under the terms of the order, not four additional whole-day shutdowns for every workplace. Date not fixed in the annual schedule

Note 1 of the official notification expressly says the holiday date for the birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji will be announced later. This page records the annual order as published; it does not place that birthday on a speculative date. Likewise, if another state notice changes a date or declares a local event holiday, the later controlling instrument should be consulted. Use the source number and date when checking for follow-up notifications. The absence of a later date in this transcription should not be read as a statement that no later order exists.

Scope and practical use

The opening paragraph applies the schedule to public offices under the Punjab Government and separately mentions all Saturdays and Sundays. It is not, on its own, a statement that every shop, factory, private office or bank has identical paid-leave obligations. An employer should apply its own governing labour law, contracts and any sector-specific order. Occasions that fall on Sunday, including the 1 February and 15 February entries, remain displayed for source fidelity but are not counted as extra weekday closures.
