Kerala Shops: annual, sick, casual and special leave
Kerala Shops Act leave reference covering twelve-day annual, sick and casual leave provisions, annual-leave accumulation, special sterilisation leave and leave-period wages with statutory conditions.
Who this applies to
Employees in establishments covered by the Kerala Shops Act; exemptions and applicable more favourable benefits must be checked
Use the correct benefit and service period
Annual leave is qualified by twelve months continuous service. Sick and casual leave are separate entitlements under section 13(2); special sterilisation leave is distinct from those ordinary balances.
Section 12 preserves applicable longer leave or weekly-holiday benefits. Check the section 13 continuity rules, educational-hostel proportionality, exact separation-payment conditions and section 16 exemption orders.
Do not count a government-office service rule as a private-establishment leave entitlement. The wage and certificate requirements for special leave are stated separately in section 14.
Source and version
Sections 12–16; annual leave section 13; special leave 13A; wages section 14. The cited leave provisions were read in the Labour Commissionerate statutory baseline. It is not represented as a full 2026 consolidation. Registration-fee amendments do not change these leave quantities; later employee-specific and establishment-specific directions require separate review.
