Tamil Nadu Shops: annual, sick and casual leave

Tamil Nadu Shops Act section 25 reference for annual leave, sick and casual leave, the 45-day annual-leave accumulation limit, qualifying service and specified discharge-payment conditions.

Who this applies to

Persons employed in establishments covered by the Tamil Nadu Shops Act; check exclusions, valid exemptions and more favourable benefits

Qualifying service and payroll

Annual leave follows twelve months continuous service; sick and casual leave are addressed separately during the first and subsequent twelve-month service periods. Do not assume all three balances accrue under the annual-leave qualification.

Apply the service-continuity rules, special educational-hostel provision, statutory wage calculation and the precise discharge or refused-leave conditions. A statement that all unused leave is always payable on every resignation would overstate section 25.

Source and version

Sections 25–28; G.O. Ms. No.162 dated 14 November 2018. Section 25 and the archive compilation footnote increasing annual-leave accumulation to 45 days were reviewed. The connected 2025 amending Act concerns penalties rather than replacing section 25. This reference is not a complete consolidation of every later notification.
