Important Notification: Amendment to Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme – Effective 18th July 2025
The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has issued a notification dated 18th July 2025, introducing key amendments to the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme, 1976 under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.
Key Highlights of the Amendment:
- Minimum Assurance Benefit Introduced:
- In case of the death of an employee during the preceding 12 months or during the membership period, a minimum assurance benefit of ₹50,000 shall be paid even if the average PF balance is below ₹50,000, including members of exempted establishments under Section 17 of the Act.
- Relaxation in Service Continuity Criteria:
- While determining eligibility for minimum assurance benefits, a gap of up to 60 days between two spells of employment shall be ignored. Multiple employments will be treated as continuous service for benefit eligibility.
- Eligibility Extended for Recently Inactive Employees:
- If an employee (including those under exempted PF establishments) dies within 6 months of the last PF contribution, while still on the employer’s rolls, they will be eligible for the insurance benefit under the scheme.
Effective Date:
The amendment is applicable from the date of its publication in the official gazette, i.e., 18th July 2025.

Notification: Amendment to BOCW (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Karnataka Rules, 2025
The Government of Karnataka has notified important amendments to the Building and Other Construction Workers’ (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Karnataka Rules, 2006 under powers conferred by Section 62 of the BOCW Act, 1996.
Key Amendments as per Notification No. LD 116 LET 2025 (Dated 16th July 2025):
- Revised Financial Limit under Rule 44:
- The financial limit mentioned in Rule 44(1) has been increased from ₹71,000 to ₹1,46,000.
- This enhancement reflects the government’s effort to improve financial assistance available to workers.
- Changes to Compensation Provision – Rule 47(2):
- The wording in Rule 47(2) has been revised to clarify that: “The registered construction worker who meets with an accident resulting in his or her death, the nominee of such registered construction worker, shall be eligible for compensation.”
- New Proviso Inserted: If a registered construction worker dies due to an accident at the workplace, the nominee shall be entitled to ₹8,00,000 (Rupees Eight Lakhs) as compensation from the Welfare Board.
Effective Date:
These amendments come into effect from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, i.e., 16th July 2025.
