Important Update for Employers in India!

The Government of India has reinforced its commitment to workplace safety with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. To ensure effective implementation, the Government has now approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all departments and establishments across the country.

Key Highlights:
Legal Framework: The Act (Central Act 14 of 2013) protects women from sexual harassment at workplaces and provides a robust mechanism for complaint redressal.
District Officers: District Collectors are appointed as District Officers under Section 5 to oversee compliance at the district level.
State Nodal Officer: The Commissioner of Social Welfare is the State Nodal Officer, responsible for monitoring statewide implementation.
Approved SOPs: The newly approved SOPs, proposed by the Commissioner of Social Welfare, provide clear guidelines for implementing the Act effectively.
Mandatory Compliance: All departments and establishments in the state must follow these SOPs to ensure proper adherence to the Act.

  • Establish or strengthen your Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as per the Act.
  • Train employees and ICC members on the SOPs and their responsibilities.
  • Ensure a safe, harassment-free workplace to avoid penalties (fines up to ₹50,000 for non-compliance).
